08/26/15

Libertyville Invite

Evanston (4-1) def. Champagne Central (25-22, 18-25, 25-14)
Evanston (5-1) def. Libertyville (25-21, 25-22)

Evanston defeated the hosts, Libertyville in their final game of the tournament to take home the silver bracket title and finish fifth overall.

Bison Fenton Invite

Deerfield def. St. Joeseph (25-16 25-7)

Deerfield def. Proviso East (25-13 25-6)
Deerfield def. Ridgewood (23-25 26-24 16-14)
Waukegan def. Deerfield (25-23 21-25 15-10)
Deerfield def. Fenton (25-17 24-26 15-13)

The Deerfield Warriors went 4-1 at the Bison Fenton Invite to take home the championship.

Grace Sluzynski led the way for the Warriors as she put away 29 kills during the tournament.

The setting tandem of Hannah Lane and Emma Velkme dished out 58 and 51 assists respectively.

The Warriors also received valuable contributions from Madi Zuckerman who had 10 kills on the day, and Annie Tompkins who led the team in blocks with 11.

Libertyville Invite

Stevenson def. Evanston (1-1) (25-23, 8-25, 15-11)
Evanston (2-1) def. Wauconda (25-10, 25-23) 
Evanston (3-1) def Grayslake North (Forfeit)

Evanston went 2-1 in pool play to advance to the silver bracket on Saturday.

Maine East (1-1) def. Leyden
(25-21, 22-25, 25-13)

Maine East won their first match of the season thanks to a well balanced attack.

Chris Kotsifas led the Blue Demons in kills again with nine, and Erika Christiansen chipped in with seven kills of her own.

Madeline Sielski continued her excellent start to the season leading the back row with 18 digs on the night.

Niles West (3-0) def. Northside Prep
(25-18, 25-17)

Niles West (2-0) def. Lake Forest
(25-7, 25-21)

Recap: Pehar powers Niles West to victory

Maine West (2-0) def. Von Steuben
(25-14, 25-18)

Jessica Riedl led the way for the Warriors for the second time this week with a five kill, nine block performance.

Maine West also received an important contribution from Christy Kolosvary, who had a great all-around game with seven digs, six assists, and two aces.

Maine South (2-0) def. Rolling Meadows
(25-21, 27-25)

Maine South remained undefeated thanks to great back row play from libero Madisen Werdell.

The junior was all over the court for the Hawks with a team high 13 digs in just two sets.

Evanston (1-0) def. Lane Tech (0-1)
(25-18, 25-19)

Maine West (1-0) def. Elk Grove (0-1)
(22-25, 25-21, 25-20)

The Maine West Warriors came from behind in their opening match to defeat the Elk Grove Grenadiers in three sets.

The Warriors were led by Jessica Riedl with a team high 13 kills. Riley Olson chipped in with six kills and 10 digs, and setter Ally Block led the team with 13 assists.

Maine West will play host to Von Steuben on Thursday evening.

Niles West (1-0) def. Highland Park (0-1)
(24-26, 25-8, 26-24)

Niles West struggled, but managed to hold on to win their opening match of the season in this CSL crossover match.

Junior outside hitter Natalia Pehar paced the Wolves with 12 kills, two aces, and four blocks. Niles West also received valuable contributions from setter Michelle Choy who dished out 27 assists, and Elianna Scalero who had seven kills, and three blocks.

Maine South (1-0) def. Prospect (0-1)
(25-17, 20-25, 25-13)

Recap: Maine South wins three-set thriller

Buffalo Grove (1-0) def. Maine East (0-1)
(25-21, 26-24)

Maine East lost their opening match of the season in straight sets to Buffalo Grove.

In the loss, the Blue Demons were led in the back by Madeline Sielski who had 13 digs on on the night.

Chris Kotsifas also chipped in with six kills for Maine East.
