Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball rankings: Week 6

IMG_6134

Another week, another new number one.

Congratulations to Montini for finally taking the number one spot, maybe their supporters on twitter will finally be happy with me.

Welcome back Kenwood. As I mentioned last week, they would be back in the rankings so long as they put together a solid performance in NOLA and they certainly did so.

Naz looks to be back in their early season form, but did they ever really take a step back? Probably not, I think I just panicked a little after their loss to McAuley.

I still remain uncertain with Evanston and Trinity. Evanston’s great comeback win against Loyola is offset by their loss against Niles West, while Trinity just did not look good when I saw them earlier this year. Here’s a tip to crack the rankings, don’t lose to teams you should beat.

So without further delay…

1. Montini (19-1) 2

Broncos finally played their way to the top

2. Geneva (15-1) 3

Bounced back straight away after Montini loss

3. Maine West (17-1) 1

Couldn’t quite crawl out of the early deficit.

4. Nazareth (18-1) 7

Relative inexperienced group starting to grow up.

5. Proviso East (15-2) 4

Quiet week after the holidays.

6. Lincoln-Way East (16-1) 5

Back to back games this week could prove tricky.

7. Benet (17-3) 8

Righted the ship

8. Glenbard South (15-1) 9

Continue to take care of business.

9. Bolingbrook (11-2) 10

Stagg could be a test.

10. Marist (13-3) 13

Going to pose some problems for teams later in the season

11. Loyola (14-3) 6

Disappointing finish vs. Evanston, and the schedule doesn’t get any easier.

12. Marian (16-3) 11

Calm before the storm.

13. Wheaton-Warrenville South (14-3) 12

Dupage Valley conference is wide open

14. Naperville Central (17-4) 14

Extremely solid win over Wheaton North.

15. Glenbard West (15-3) 16

Two solid opponents in St. Charles North and Lyons this week.

16. Kenwood (16-3) NR

Runner up in New Orleans.
