Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball top-20: Week 7
How about those Mighty Macs?
After taking Mother McAuley out of the rankings three weeks ago they have gone on an absolute tear. This past week, McAuley beat three teams in the top-20 including number two Geneva.
Speaking of Geneva, it must been a long time since they last lost back to back games.
First time in a while where nobody has dropped out of the top-20. Teams have pretty much solidified themsleves by this point. Whitney, Maine South and Evanston can still easily get back in, but they’re going to need some help from others.
I really wanted to hold off on these rankings until tomorrow because of the Derril Kipp Classic, but that would be cheating so if these rankings seem questionable come Tuesday morning, that’s my excuse.
1. Montini (21-2) 1
Still have not lost to a team from Illinois. Can’t be without Sam Mitchell for too long
2. Maine West (19-1) 3
The rest of the CSL North has no chance. Big game against Benet Monday
3. Benet (18-3) 7
Really settled in after the holidays
4. Proviso East (17-2) 5
Pirates just keep wining, will look to run the table in conference
5. Nazareth (19-2) 4
Hung with Benet for the entire game, heavy favorites from the area in 3A
6. Geneva (13-3) 3
Disappointing week for the Vikings, I would not want to be Streamwood.
7. Lincoln-Way East (20-1) 6
Tough week with Rock Island and Bolingbrook, going to find out how good the Griffins really are
8. Bolingbrook (14-2) 9
Still not sure how the Raiders have so many less games played than every other team, but interesting game against Simeon later in the week
9. Mother McAuley (16-5) 17
Maybe the best week of any team this season
10. Marian Catholic (19-3)
Rolled through out of area competition
11. Marist (15-4) 10
Easier portion of their schedule upcoming
12. Glenbard South (15-2) 8
First loss in a long time for the Raiders.
13. Wheaton-Warrenville South (17-3) 13
Huge conference game against Naperville Central on Thursday.
14. Loyola (16-4) 11
Made up for their week with a big win over Geneva
15. Naperville Central (18-4) 14
Playing much better as of late
16. Glenbard West (17-3) 15
Tough game against a solid Rolling Meadows team upcoming
17. Kenwood (17-3) 16
Broncos have been traveling everywhere this year
18. Simeon (13-4) 19
Big week ahead and a clash with Bolingbrook on the horizon
19. Lincoln-Way West (19-3) 20
Will be looking for revenge against Lincoln-Way Central
20. St. Ignatius (14-5) 18
Split week, was the first victim of McAuley streak

Our paper covers McAuley and I watch that team and you nailed it. After losing four out of six to end December, they put together a 5-0 run against teams they could have gone 2-3 or 3-2 against. Huge week.
