Boys basketball roundup: Week of 11/20
Tuesday Nov. 21
(3-0) New Trier 41, (2-1) Loyola 46
It was a low scoring affair as both teams struggled to find the hoop in the first half. Loyola missed countless three and even New Trier’s 6’8″ Ciaran Brayboy missed a few point blank layups.
The shooting troubles turned around in the second half as Loyola started raining three pointers and New Trier followed suit.
New Trier would erase a six point fourth quarter deficit, to win 46-41 while hitting clutch free throws down the stretch.
New Trier’s Griffin Ryan led the Trevians with 12 points. Cirian Brayboy added a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Connor Barrett had a game high 13 points, and Kevin Cunningham added 9 shooting 3-3 from three point range.
(3-0) Niles North 76, (2-1) Lane Tech 60
Once again, Niles North were led by the trio of Dravon Claybourn, Damaria Franklin and Demarion Smith.
Claybourn led all scorers with 29 points and Franklin added a double-double of 18 points, 10 rebounds to go along with four blocked shots.
After shooting 5-6 from the field for 14 points and 7 rebounds, Smith brings his shooting percentage through the first three games of the season up to an astounding 73%.
(2-0) Niles North 82, (1-1) Jones 51
After a sub-par performance in Niles North’s opening game, Damaria Frankin led all scorers with 19 points and added 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
Julius Francellno also had a nice all around performance with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Monday Nov. 20
Niles North (1-0) 82, Urban Prep Bronzeville (0-1) 36
The sixth ranked Vikings cruised in their first game of the season at the Battle of the Bridge tournament.
Dravon Claybourn led all scorers with 29 points, Demarion Bariffe-Smith added 15 on 7-8 shooting with five rebounds and Phillip Wilson had eight points and seven boards.
