Fremd finally climbed the mountain top by beating Lincoln-Way West in the state title game by a score of 58-47.
But in the end, none of that mattered as the Wolverines erased a 16 point deficit to defeat the defending and previously unbeaten state champions Morton 45-44.
The Warriors, led by the trio of Gugliuzza sisters didn’t let the bright lights affect their game as they beat Bolingbrook by a score of 68-57, and will face off against Fremd in the 4A title game.
This time around, the Vikings topped Darrione Rogers’ Lake Park squad, 46-34 to advance to the state final for the third time in six years.
The Wolverines defeated usual, but young, state power in Montini 48-40 to advance to the state finals, a first for their girls program.
The Warriors incredible four year run came to an end at the hands of Fremd, who controlled the game for three quarters, and managed to hold off a furious fourth quarter comeback attempt to escape with a 57-49 win, while also avenging a 17 point loss just two weeks ago.
Rankings for after sectionals
Just like last year, Marist came in as the higher seed, and unfortunately for the Redhawks, Homewood-Flossmoor took them out of their up-tempo offense, to win 45-42 in overtime to claim their first sectional title since 2017.

Rankings for regional week
The host Scouts led from wire to wire over the fourth seed Patriots 51-46, taking the season series and the regional crown.
The Ramblers defended and rebounded at a extremely high level to knock off New Trier on their home floor by a score of 47-29 to advance to the sectional round at Maine West.
