Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball top-20: Week 11

IL Preps Logo 2

Seeds came out last week, which pretty much means all games from here on out are mostly just a tuneup. Rankings matter little at this point, it ultimately comes down to who can survive the pressure cooker that is playoff season.

Fremd had a really nice win over 3A power Morton this week, the top was pretty stable, the bottom not so much.

Tiers have certainly developed here in the late season. You can probably flip around teams 2-7 and 8-12 as much as you’d like and not be wrong. Though I’m starting to wonder how good Thornwood is since they haven’t played anybody good in a while.

Yes Naz was without Annie Stritzel and Jovanna Martinucci in their game against Whitney Young, but I haven’t taken players absences into account before so I have to keep it consistent.

Rolling Meadows and Lake Forest return, Minooka debuts and Wheaton-Warrenville South barely hand on.

1. Maine West 1 (26-0) 1

Most consecutive weeks at number one

2. Mother McAuley (26-2) 3

Nice week with wins over Loyola and McAuley

3. Whitney Young (22-5) 5

Starting to play up to expectations

4. Nazareth (24-2) 2

5. Benet (22-5) 4

See above

6. Montini  (26-4) 6

Finish the season in the non-conference

7. Simeon (20-8) 7

Finals appearance against Whitney Young

8. Thornwood (21-1) 8

Soft schedule to close

9. New Trier  (22-5) 9

Took care of business against GBS

10. Fremd (25-4) 12

Very impressive win over 3A threat Morton

11. St. Ignatius (21-7) 10

Lot of opportunities to be tested before playoffs

12. Loyola (21-7) 11

Jesuit Cup rematch

13. Marist (17-7) 14

Quietly on a five game win streak

14. Lincoln-Way West (20-4) 15

Peaking at the right time

15. Evanston (19-7) 16

Can clinch conference on Tuesday

16. Kenwood (18-10) 14

Bumped from Public League playoffs courtesy of Whitney

17. Lake Forest (22-6) NR

Could potentially make a run at a sectional

18. Minooka (24-3) NR

Top seed in their sectional and rankings debut

19. Rolling Meadows (20-6) NR

Would love to have Rolla, but still have legit chance at sectional

20. Wheaton-Warrenville South (16-8) 18

Giving them the benefit of the doubt for Batavia loss
