Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball top-20: 2019-20 Week 3
Well that was quite the weekend.
Between the Chicagoland showcase at Fremd, and the GCAC/ESCC crossover games at Nazareth, a lot of the top-teams ended up playing each other this week.
The funny thing about that though, was despite the losses in the top-half of the rankings, there wasn’t much movement at the top.
I think what we really learned this week is there is a pretty significant drop off after about number 15. Those teams are so tightly contested, it’s anyone guess whose coming away with a state title this year.
I’m a little worried about Whitney Young. Yes they only played one game, and played an extremely good team, but a 40 point loss is not a good look for the Dolphins. We’ll see, hard to make judgements on one game.
Poor Loyola had a rough three loss week, no fault to them as they played three really tough teams. However, not many teams can survive in the rankings by losing 4 of their last 5 games. Now watch them beat Mother McAuley this week just to spite me.
1. Benet (9-0) 1
Beat McAuley in first matchup since state final
2. Evanston (5-0) 2
Beaver Dam win is a lot better than most realize
3. Montini (8-0) 3
Young ones growing up
4. Maine West (8-1) 4
The win streak is over
5. Fremd (6-1) 6
Ran into a buzzsaw that was Crown Point
6. Homewood-Flossmoor (6-1) 10
Big win over Simeon
7. Simeon (5-2) 5
Tough opening schedule for the Wolverines
8. Lincoln-Way West (8-1) 8
Showed resilience against Benet
9. Whitney Young (1-1) 5
Jury is still out
10. Bolingbrook (3-1) 11
Could prove a lot in game against Lincoln-Way West
11. Kenwood (7-0) 12
Beautiful ball movement against Naperville North
12. Fenwick (7-0) 13
Extremely stead to start the year
13. Marist (7-0) 13
Impressive wins over Lake Forest and Loyola
14. Lake Forest (7-1) 9
Won two out of their three tough games
15. Geneva (6-0) 15
Schedule won’t ramp up until Christmas
16. Stevenson (6-2) 17
Lake Forest loss nothing to be concerned about
17. York (8-0) 19
Benet game is looming
18. Hersey (7-2) 20
Have come a long way since the first week
19. St. Ignatius (7-1) NR
Only loss to Benet
20. Mother McAuley (6-3) NR
