Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball top-20: 2019-20 week 4

So we reached that one week of the season where everybody decides they want to lose.

Well, not everyone, but you get the picture.

I said earlier this season that the North Suburban conference was arguably one of the most difficult conferences this year, there are so many good teams from top to bottom and that certainly showed with Stevenson and Lake Forest losses to Zion Benton and Lake Zurich.

Some very new blood enters the rankings this week in Rich South and Dundee-Crown. This is the first time they have been in the top-20 so welcome.

Do I think that some other teams are more talented? Sure. But these two teams have earned their right to be here with their early season play and have wins over the likes of Kankakee, Burlington Central, and St. Viator.

1. Benet (11-0) 1

Back to back wins over Marist and Fremd is impressive

2. Evanston (7-0) 2

Rivalry wins always nice

3. Montini (11-0) 3

Tricky game against St. Ignatius

4. Maine West (9-1) 4

Undefeated in the CSL since 2016

5. Fremd (7-2) 5

Really nice win over McAuley

6. Homewood-Flossmoor (8-2) 6

Out of state loss not a big deal

7. Simeon (8-2) 7

Marist this week

8. Lincoln-Way West (10-1) 8

Proved a lot in win over Bolingbrook

9. Kenwood (10-0) 11

First big win over Ignatius

10. Whitney Young (5-1) 9

Games against quality instate opponents are sparse

11. Fenwick (11-0)

Next big test will be holiday tourney

12. Marist (7-1) 13

First loss of the year, but it was to Benet

13. Bolingbrook (7-0) 10

No bad losses, but a two loss week nonetheless

14. Geneva (8-0) 15

Still rolling

15. York (10-0) 17

Glenbard West will be tough

16. Lake Forest (9-2) 14

No need to panic

17. St. Ignatius (9-2) 19

Almost pulled off a win against Kenwood

18. Mother McAuley (8-4) 20

Starting to find a bit of a groove

19. Dundee-Crown (6-0) NR

Will get tested in their own holiday tourney

20. Rich South (11-0) NR

Schedule is backloaded with two games against Thornwood still to go
