Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball top-20: 2020 Regionals

It was very nearly a copy and paste week for the rankings, but a Lake Forest regional win flipped that script.

This is the first year since we started where there were no major upsets on regional weekend. It’s much more rare in girls basketball, but usually you get the one off like Maine South over Proviso East in 2018, and Yorkville last year.

But as for this year, nothing. It was almost as chalk as you could have gotten. I think you’ll see a couple of surprising results in sectionals, but who knows.

Selfishly, I enjoy playoff rankings because records are so much easier to change. You won a regional? Great, add two wins. Get bumped in the sectional finals? One win, one loss.

Lake Forest gets back in the rankings this week. Tough decision, was a toss-up between them and Loyola, but the Scouts get the nod as the only team with a win against a team in the top-20 this week.
