I hope you have all enjoyed the start of the 2017-18 basketball season thus far, I know I have.

Now that we are a few weeks into the season, here is our inaugural girls basketball top-20 for the Chicagoland area.

Expect a lot of movement in the upcoming weeks, especially with conference play beginning in the southwest suburbs and the catholic league.

Rankings done by: Luke Drase

1. Geneva (6-0)

Defending 4A state champions for a reason.

2. Montini (8-0)

Undefeated and dismantling opponents.

3. Maine West (8-0)

Huge win against Beaver Dam (WI) at Fremd this past weekend.

4. Nazareth (8-0)

Annie Stritzel and Providence commit Alyssa Geary lead the way.

5. Benet (8-1)

Convincing win against St. Joseph, South Bend (IN) this past weekend.

Missing a few players in their loss against Evanston.

Talent still there, not a bad loss against Proviso East.

Undefeated but untested.

Another interesting southwest suburban contender. Sole loss was to Montini.

16. Whitney Young (2-1)

Huge margins of victory, but lost in first real challenge against Homewood-Flossmoore.

17. Marist (7-1)

Very young but very talented.

18 Kenwood (6-2)

Only losses to fellow top-20 teams.

19. St. Ignatius (6-1)

Will be looking for first regional title since 2013.

20. Homewood-Flossmoor (3-2)

Some head scratching losses but talent is obviously there after win over Whitney.

  1. Check out Lincoln Park Girls Basketball. They are 6-0. Solid team and a lot of height. Things are looking up for the girls program. They beat North Side Prep the other night at Lincoln Park.
