Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball top-20
I hope you have all enjoyed the start of the 2017-18 basketball season thus far, I know I have.
Now that we are a few weeks into the season, here is our inaugural girls basketball top-20 for the Chicagoland area.
Expect a lot of movement in the upcoming weeks, especially with conference play beginning in the southwest suburbs and the catholic league.

1. Geneva (6-0)
Defending 4A state champions for a reason.
2. Montini (8-0)
Undefeated and dismantling opponents.
3. Maine West (8-0)
Huge win against Beaver Dam (WI) at Fremd this past weekend.
4. Nazareth (8-0)
Annie Stritzel and Providence commit Alyssa Geary lead the way.
5. Benet (8-1)
Convincing win against St. Joseph, South Bend (IN) this past weekend.
6. Proviso East (6-1)
Sole loss was to Nazareth at Niles North thanksgiving tournament.
7. Mother McAuley (7-0)
Tough conference schedule upcoming.
8. Marian Catholic (7-0)
Big comeback win against Evanston to remain undefeated.
9. Loyola (7-1)
Loss in rivalry game to New Trier.
10. Wheaton North (5-0)
Interesting team to keep an eye out for in the southwest suburbs.
11. Naperville Central (6-1)
Big test against Wheaton Warrenville South this week.
12. New Trier (6-1)
Missing a few players in their loss against Evanston.
13. Simeon (2-1)
Talent still there, not a bad loss against Proviso East.
14. Bolingbrook (3-0)
Undefeated but untested.
15. Lincoln-Way East (6-1)
Another interesting southwest suburban contender. Sole loss was to Montini.
16. Whitney Young (2-1)
Huge margins of victory, but lost in first real challenge against Homewood-Flossmoore.
17. Marist (7-1)
Very young but very talented.
18 Kenwood (6-2)
Only losses to fellow top-20 teams.
19. St. Ignatius (6-1)
Will be looking for first regional title since 2013.
20. Homewood-Flossmoor (3-2)
Some head scratching losses but talent is obviously there after win over Whitney.
