Led by a swarming defense, timely passing, a solid ground game, and superb special teams play, the Warriors won their first state playoff game in school history by defeating the Benet Redwings 20-18 and avenging their loss from a year ago.
It certainly wasn’t an upset win, but St. Patrick’s 25-23, 25-22 victory over Benet was…unconventional.
In a season full of inconsistencies a common theme may have finally emerged, and that is no team is safe in the class 4A state playoffs. Tuesday night’s action was no exception, as top seeded Montini and second seed Benet had to overcome late deficits in order to advance to the sectional finals.
