Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball top-20: 2019-20 sectional rankings
Well, what do we do with Benet?
Their excellent regular season cannot be ignored, but they just got beat by a really good Bolingbrook team. Not even on a last second shot, they just got beat.
This is why I like the end of the regular season rankings a bit more. They’re a little more consistent and we aren’t dropping or promoting teams so extravagantly.
Lake Park comes back after winning a sectional. They began the year in the top-20 and will likely end the year in the top-20 as well.
Simeon jumps Montini. Their sectional win was a little more impressive and they have been unreal this entire season. First time since we started doing ranking a Public League team is number one in the area.
3A is going to be an absolute blast.
1. Simeon (31-2) 3
Rolling along
2. Montini (30-4) 2
Closer to Super-Sectional assignment than regional assignment
3. Maine West (30-3) 4
Seems to have Evanston’s number
4. Lincoln-Way West (30-3) 5
Long travel days had zero impact
5. Homewood-Flossmoor (26-4) 7
No Grace Hall, no worries
6. Benet (29-3) 1
Season comes to a close earlier than expected
7. Bolingbrook (24-7) 10
Biggest win of the playoffs thus far
8. Fremd (27-7) 12
Right where we expected them in the beginning of the year
9. Kenwood (27-7) 8
Just couldn’t beat Simeon
10. Evanston (24-7) 9
Solid season, couldn’t quite take down Maine West
11. Libertyville (25-5) 6
Win streak is over
12. Whitney Young (25-7) 14
One of the best backcourts in the state
13. Marist (30-5) 11
OT losses never easy
14. Grayslake Central (30-3) 16
Another fun 3A contender
15. Lake Forest (26-9) 20
Closed strong, didn’t quite have enough for Fremd
16. Hersey (26-8) 13
Will most certainly be a factor next season
17. Fenwick (27-8) 17
First tough opponent in the playoffs in Simeon
18. Lake Park (25-8) NR
Rogers leads team to first sectional title
19. Maine South (26-7) 15
Third loss to Evanston
20. Naperville North (25-6) 19
Will always be a factor with Kampschroeder
