Illinois Preps Insider girls basketball top-20: Week 5

IMG_0703

We are officially over one month into a season.

Thanksgiving tournaments are long behind us, Christmas tourneys are just around the corner, and we’ve finally established a little bit of consistency (Kind of).

Now there were still some upsets, but again I don’t want to be rash one way or another. Once again, consistency is the most important thing to me, can you rack up some good wins while avoiding the bad losses.

There have been a few teams that haven’t had any bad losses, but on the other end of things, they haven’t beaten anybody of note (and vice versa).

Was half tempted to bump up Benet after their impressive week, but you really can’t take anything away from Fremd, McAuley and Maine West and how solid they’ve been this year.

1. Maine West (14-0) 2

Have Evanston’s number

2. Fremd (14-0) 3

Survived a scare against Oswego East

3. Mother McAuley (12-0) 4

Another solid win against Lake Forest

4. Benet (13-2) 5

They’re back

5. Whitney Young (8-3) 1

Surprising 0-2 weekend in Michigan

6. Nazareth (11-0) 7

Big time matchup against a fully healthy Simeon this weekend

7. Montini (12-1) 9

Flying under the radar

8. St. Ignatius (9-2) 13

Finding that consistency we’ve been asking for

9. Marist (10-2) 6

Not a great look against Benet

10. Evanston (10-2) 8

Can’t beat Maine West, injuries starting to become an issue

11. Thornwood (8-0) 14

Benefited from a down week

12. Simeon (9-4) 15

Morrow is back and the Wolverines dangerous

13. Kenwood (9-3) 10

Chance to make a statement against Mother McAuley

14. Loyola (9-3) 11

Two straight losses in the Jesuit Cup

15. New Trier (10-3) 16

Grinded out a win in the Titan Dome

16. Bolingbrook (6-3) 12

Double digit loss to York was not ideal

17. Lincoln-Way West (8-2) 19

Intriguing game against Downers North

18. Libertyville (10-3) 18

Impressive defensive performance against Lake Zurich

19. Wheaton North (8-0) NR

Making their return to the rankings for the first time since last year

20. York (10-3) NR

Lose two games in a week, get ranked. Shows how big that win over Bolingbrook was and will have a chance to solidify that at Montini
