Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball top-20: Post-Regionals
Well that sure was exciting, a couple of highlights from the regional rounds.
Benet vs. Simeon was a blast, really too bad it was only a regional final.
The 17 seed Yorkville taking out the top seed in their sectional and continuing their run all the way to sectional-semifinals (How far can they take it?).
Just like last year, I try not to overreact to playoff losses when it comes to rankings. Sometimes playoffs are a crapshoot and you run into a bad matchup, or have an off shooting night, it happens and I try not to base the body of work for a teams entire season off of one game.
Obviously there was still going to be some movement and some old, familiar faces rejoin the ranks (Hi Bolingbrook, nice to see you again!) so here are the post-regional rankings.
1. Maine West 1 (30-0) 1
Cannot look past GBS
2. Mother McAuley (30-2) 2
No issues during regionals
3. Whitney Young (25-5) 3
Survived Kenwood
4. Benet (25-5) 4
Battle tested against Simeon
5. Nazareth (28-3) 5
Should easily advance to Sectional Finals
6. MontiniĀ (29-4) 6
Dominated a tricky DGN
7. Fremd (28-4) 8
MSL crossover showdown against Hersey
8. Loyola (24-7) 9
Will be pushed to the limit by Evanston
9. St. Ignatius (24-8) 11
Very convincing regional games
10. Thornwood (26-2) 12
Displayed the consistency they have all season
11. Evanston (23-7) 15
Fully healthy just in time
12. Lincoln-Way West (26-4) 14
First regional win in class 4A
13. Simeon (21-11) 10
Were right there, no shame in losing to Benet
14. Wheaton-Warrenville South (21-8) 18
Probably the most complete team in Batavia sectional
15. New Trier (24-6) 7
Unfortunate end to the season
