Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball top-20: Week 2

IMG_6244

Well it sure was an interesting week. Two surprising wins from Fenwick sent one team out of our top-20 and another spiralling out of the top-10. Even with the two big wins, Fenwick’s poor start to the season are really holding the Friars back.

Slight shakeup in the top-5 after Montini lost in Kentucky, but nothing too drastic as the Broncos continue to stampede through everyone else.

Glenbard South was the beneficiary of St. Ignatius’ loss so a big welcome to them.

Finally, Bolingbrook is still a huge question mark. The Raiders have only played five games thus far and haven’t faced any steep competition all year, but when they do play, they’ve won big and are putting up some giant numbers.

The number next to the record indicates where the team was last week.

Rankings done by: Luke Drase

1. Geneva (8-0) 1

Really starting to get the ball rolling.

2. Maine West (10-0) 3

The rest of the CSL North is completely outmatched.

3. Montini (10-1) 2

Tough loss to Campbell County (KY) in the state of Kentucky.

4. Nazareth (10-0) 4

Big win against Morgan Park in the Whitney Young shootout this weekend.

5. Benet (10-1) 5

The one team this week that didn’t slip up against Fenwick.

6. Proviso East (10-1) 6

Huge 4-0 week for the Pirates.

7. Marian Catholic (9-0) 7

Their own holiday tournament on the docket.

8. Loyola (8-1) 9

Ramblers sure can shoot. Nice win against a tricky Trinity side.

9. Wheaton North (7-0) 10

Will have a tough test against a hungry Mother McAuley.

10. Naperville Central (7-1) 11

Convincing win against Wheaton-Warrenville South.

11. New Trier (9-1) 12

Nice bounce back week, including win over Maine South.

12. Bolingbrook (5-0) 13

Absolutely rolling through teams but still largely untested. Holiday tournaments should tell us a lot.

Rivalry game against Morgan Park upcoming.

14. Lincoln-Way East (8-1) 15

Outside of loss to Montini, the Griffins are rolling through teams.

15. Marist (8-1) 16

Top-20 showdown against Mother McAuley on Tuesday.

16. Mother McAuley (8-1) 7

Road doesn’t get any easier after a disappointing Fenwick loss.

17. Kenwood (8-2) 18

Can only beat the teams you play. January tournament in New Orleans will be good for the Broncos.

18 Homewood-Flossmoor (4-2) 20

Starting to find their footing.

19. Whitney Young (5-2) 16

Not a bad loss against Proviso East, but still looking for that signature win.
