Illinois Preps Insider’s girls basketball top-20: 2019-20 Week 6
Probably going to be a little more explanation in the opener here than usual, just because so much has happened this week.
Per usual, the consolation bracket games practically do not matter, there’s just too many variables and while everybody wants to win, there is a different intensity, and I’m speaking from experience here.
The one exception here was the winner of the Benet/Montini matchup tonight got the nod over the other.
Simeon, Whitney Young, and Mother McAuley are a little tricky. They absolutely rolled through their tournaments, but with those games being out of state they pretty much stayed where they were at.
Maine South just misses out by the slimmest of margins. I don’t usually mention those things but it was that close. Loss to New Trier was the one thing holding them back.
I’m trusting the coaches for Libertyville being back in the rankings, there are a lot of people who don’t want to play them. The Wildcats are on a roll now, and finally healthy. They will get challenged right away against HF.
Perhaps a little early to be looking at this kind of stuff, but one team always makes a huge jump in the offseason. Hersey is probably that team next year. They are so solid, and I don’t think freshman Katy Eidle realizes how good she is yet. Scary thought.
Oh, and we have a new number one for the first time this season.
