Had a really fun day from my perch at New Trier, here are some of my thoughts from Friday evening’s action.
Despite being plagued by injuries to star middle Joe D’Attomo, and starting setter Ben Wiegand, New Trier shook off a slow start to beat rivals Glenbrook North, 23-25, 25-20, 25-15 in what could be a preview of the sectional final.
We return to CSL yet again to try and predict the final standings for the CSL South
It may have only been the opening match of the season, but Monday nights contest between Libertyville and New Trier had a playoff-like atmosphere.
Maine West pulled off a shocking 56-52 victory over New Trier to claim the CSL crossover championship and avoid a CSL South sweep.
Time and time again, ranked teams have had head scratching losses, and top seeds have bowed without even winning a regional, but Maine West (29-1) and Loyola (25-5) have overcome those troubling odds to set up a much anticipated matchup between two top-10 teams.
Less than two months ago, New Trier were coming off their worst stretch of the season, losing four of six games which included a double digit loss to Trinity. Since that point of the season, the Trevians have gone on a tear, rattling off 10 straight wins capped off by 67-42 win over Trinity to claim another regional title.
Girls rankings for the week of 2/4
New Trier earned a comfortable 51-35 win, holding GBS to just 11 second half points to improve to 6-1 in the CSL South.
