Even with all the potential distractions, such as a potential matchup with St. Francis Loyola managed to cut through the St. Ignatius defense and the wind, for an important 2-0 win to keep them within reach of a GCAC conference title.
Despite the constant lineup flux, the opportunities given to different players have started to pay off for Loyola, as the Ramblers easily handled Niles North 25-14, 25-18 to improve to 8-6 on the season.
With their 57-46 win over Loyola, Maine West won their second consecutive sectional championship, something that hasn’t been done at the school since the 1992 and 1993 seasons.
Time and time again, ranked teams have had head scratching losses, and top seeds have bowed without even winning a regional, but Maine West (29-1) and Loyola (25-5) have overcome those troubling odds to set up a much anticipated matchup between two top-10 teams.

There has been some shakeup in sectional assignments as No. 4 Proviso East makes the move to the Maine East sectional
Loyola quickly erased a six point halftime deficit en route to a 41-36 win to improve their record to 17-4 and 3-1 in the GCAC.
Even without their starting point guard, Montini had no trouble with Loyola to improve to 21-1 on the season.
There has been no let up for the Ramblers since their return from Florida, winning three games since reentering state limits, the latest being a 52-49 win over St. Viator in the MLK shootout to improve to 14-2 on the season.
Propelled by a big first half performance, No. 9 Loyola held on to defeat Trinity (6-2) 50-42, winning their seventh straight contest and improving to 8-1 on the season.
